The Science of Whiteboard Animation

It’s no secret that whiteboard animation is a great way to grab your clients’ attention and boost sales.

But why does it work so well?

It turns out, our brains are wired to enjoy a whiteboard animation video as much as they would enjoy drawing a picture themselves.

Just ask Vittorio Gallese, professor of neurophysiology, neuroscience, social neuroscience, and philosophy of mind.

Vittorio’s studies connect two areas of research…

Mirror neurons,

and simulation theory.

Simulation theory states that we don’t use logic or reasoning to relate to other people.  Instead, our minds use mirror neurons to simulate what we see, letting us feel the emotion we’re observing.

It also lets us experience the positive emotions of the person we’re watching.

If we watch a football player catch a touchdown, we get excited.  If we watch a movie where the happy couple ends up together, we feel a little romantic.

And if we watch a whiteboard animation video, we feel the same positive emotion as the person drawing.

See, drawing a picture you’re happy with releases dopamine – the “feel-good” brain chemical, associated with happiness and accomplishment.

And as Vittorio Gallese has shown, when we watch someone draw, our brains release that same dopamine.

So the next time you want to grab your prospects’ attention in a way backed by neuroscience, use a whiteboard animation video.
